Interconnections

from The Persistence of Movement by Andrea Baroni

/

about

The song has originally been created as the soundtrack for a modern dance performance. Then it evolved and expanded as a full musical journey, exploring the theme of personal connections, from the most obvious ones (loved ones, family, etc...) to the invisible links of empathy that bind us as humans.
It starts slowly, as a pure ambient song, then the piano comes in, then human vox, a cello, and things get more complex, harsh and intense, like in the process involved in forming a new connection, with crescendos and drops, uncertainties and sweetness.
The speech in the middle is taken from a public broadcast (now public domain) about neighbours surveillance, and it embodies the impossibilities and the absurd of not being able to know everyone, so where each story becomes just an abstraction in a bigger scheme.
